Making a character ยท the step after class
Every book's subclasses for the chosen class, in one list, each wearing its book. No book comes first and no pairing is special; the tag on the row is the whole answer to whose it is.
The list
Six subclasses, three books
The six names are the ones the bundled books print for Fighter, in one alphabetical list. Choose Later is there because most rules hand out a subclass at level 3, and a character made today may not be there yet.
Long press
The book's own words, and what comes when
Fighters of the Spell Blade discipline view fighting with swords and sorcery as a logical marriage of power. For you, magic can be wielded as a weapon, and honing your mind is just as important as honing your body.
The prose is the paragraph every subclass entry carries under its heading, drawn here for Spell Blade exactly as its book prints it; the levels are read off the entry's features. No name and no tag in the panel, because the row under the thumb already says both, which is the rule the class step's long press follows today.
On the character
Two tags say which book each came from
The character page carries both tags for good, so the pairing is visible every time the sheet is opened. The Fighter features named are the ones the Black Flag document prints at levels 1 and 2; the Spell Blade feature is a placeholder for what its book prints at 3.
The subclass is its own step between Class and Abilities rather than a second question on the class page, so the class grid stays twelve names and one button. The list is one list, sorted by name, because a book's own subclasses are not a category a player picks by. The tag on each row is the book's short name, the same tag the class grid already wears when two books print the same class. Choose Later is drawn quiet, as navigation is, and sits at the bottom where a step's way out always sits.
